We are not of this world, and neither are our weapons.
The win? Souls.
2 Corinthians 10: 3-5
For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
What We Learned
On this earth, we have an enemy.
Our enemy is in a war that rages against us.
Our warring enemy has weapons that it uses against us.
And we use our own weapons to fight this enemy in this world.
But our weapons aren't like theirs.
Our weapons are contrary to theirs, different. Opposite. Of a different caliber.
Our weapons have divine power, power from God.
Our weapons have a divine power that not only have the ability to fight back - they demolish.
Our divine weapons demolish the enemy’s strongholds.
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
The Enemy's Strongholds
What are the strongholds that we demolish with our weapons in this war against evil?
1) Arguments
Arguments are lies. The devil has always been The Great Deceiver. His lies that we’re not good enough, that we're defeated, sick, poor, ugly, or otherwise imperfect.
Arguments play mind games to deceive us.
2) Every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God
Our enemy wants to hide the knowledge of God from us. To do this, the evil one uses pretensions.
Pretensions can be distractions, useless and mindless occupations that dull the mind or distract it from God.
Why? Our enemy doesn't want us to have the knowledge of God.
This reinforces that if we know God, if we have knowledge of God, then we need to spread it to others, instead of being distracted by the world's mindless preoccupations.
3) We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
Since we are being deceived, our offensive, divine weapon is also a stronghold that demolishes the enemy ~ it is our thoughts.
Our thoughts must represent Christ’s. We take captive, jail, restrain, and contain every thought ~ to make it obedient to Christ’s thoughts and to Christ Himself.
